Message from the president
By Marpole CC president Becky Gibbons
Welcome back to the 2023/24 season of great curling at Marpole Curling Club. As you may know, we have taken on a new way to manage our club. We have enlisted Vancouver Curling Club (VCC) to become our manager, by operating our facility with a team. The board feels this is an opportunity to expand the game of curling at Marple and in Vancouver, while we retain our unique culture. This is a change and members may have questions. The board members are there for our members, so reach out. Board members are Becky Gibbons (president), Dale Cameron (vice president), Bob Chambers (treasurer), Tammy Cameron (secretary), Laura Rampton, Marian Dickens, Warren Threlfall, Bill Flynn, Dave Kobayashi, Derek Smith, Evan Valensky and Gregg Bruce.
The general manager of VCC and MCC is Patrick Prade (patrick.prade@marpolecurling,ca), who with the steering committee (Dale Cameron This email address is being protected from spambots. There will be changes, but I feel this will help grow the sport that we love and also keep us the "friendly home of curling in south Vancouver."
More curling equipment for sale this coming season
Some Goldline and Asham curling shoes will now be kept in stock at Marpole CC.
There will be a bigger selection of curling equipment for sale at the club in the 2023-24 season, as stock from the Vancouver CC inventory will be available on site at Marpole CC. In particular, Asham and Goldline shoes will be for sale. If you want something that is not in stock at Marpole, but in our Vancouver inventory, we will bring it to Marpole for you. New shipments from Asham and Goldline for the upcoming season have arrived at the Vancouver CC. We also carry Hardline brooms. Renew your locker rental by Sept. 29
Members who had lockers last season can renew their locker for the upcoming season up until Sept. 29. After that, any remaining lockers not renewed will be open to any curler to rent.
Become a paid curling coach at Marpole and Vancouver clubs
One of the new opportunities from the operating agreement with Vancouver CC is that curlers can now work as coaches on a combined staff for both clubs. A first step to becoming a paid coach, handling rental groups at either or both clubs, is to take the Curl BC competition coach course on the Sept. 9-10 weekend at Vancouver CC. New interclub league for youth curlers
Marpole Curling Club is joining up with the Vancouver Curling Club and the Royal City Curling Club to start a new Greater Vancouver Youth Curling League, initiated by Royal City junior coordinator Chris Summers. Any junior-aged curler is welcome to participate. Click here for registration.
We are also looking for coaches who would be willing to help with this league. Please contact David Hignell at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
